Bullying

Emotional Resilience

South Tyneside Authority is committed to equipping young people to deal with situations they may be faced with as they go through their lives.

Secondary schools in the Borough are sending a number of staff to Philadelphia during the first two weeks of the Summer Holidays to enable them to deliver the workshops to groups of Year 7 pupils.

Harton Technology College have two members of staff, Mrs Janet Mizen ( Pupil/Parent Support Worker) and Mr Alan Williams (Director of Learning for Year 9) who will be taking part in the training.

Keeping Harton a safe place to learn

Bullying is taken very seriously at Harton Technology College. Every member of staff is available to deal with any bullying incident.

A young person (or the parent/guardian) is encouraged to tell a member of staff at the earliest possible point about any incident where a pupil feels intimidated or threatened.

The incident will be dealt with directly or passed to the Head of Year who will follow set protocols – this may be as simple as talking with all parties through to the involvement of parents, application of sanctions etc. A sheet is logged by the Head of Year at this point.

School buddies (identified older students) are in place and can be approached at any time.

How can we stop the bullies?

All pupils must understand that it is safe to tell someone. Once they have told someone, then something can be done about it and it will stop.

As a school community, we believe that everyone has the right to feel safe in school.
