The family of schools for the sports programme is as follows:
- Downhill Infants
- Highfield Infants
- Harton Infants
- Harton Juniors
- Cheviot Juniors
- Westoe Crown Primary
All schools must carry out an audit of their current PE delivery and from this a family development plan is written by our school co-ordinator Ms Morris to deliver a programme that suits everyone’s needs.
At present the audit has been carried out and the family plan is imminent. In the meantime contact and activities have started to be organised. Tag rugby has been delivered in all feeder schools by Mr P Byrne and schools have been made aware of a club link to Harton Technology College on a Monday after school. Downhill infants have had 2 sessions at the Harton Technology College (1 tramplining and 1 swimming), Harton infants have had 2 sessions of trampolining and Westoe Crown have had 3 sessions trampolining.
Ms Morris has arranged for hockey coaching to be delivered in Cheviot, Westoe Crown and Harton Juniors with a view to the year 5/6 pupils having a hockey festival in December/January. All those pupils who take part will then be directed to the WASPS Hockey Club at Temple Park.
All feeder schools are meeting with community sport coaches in order to set up breakfast, lunchtime or after school clubs. Highfield Infants have already arranged a lunchtime club for multi skills to begin in January. The community coaches are used to deliver training to lunchtime assistants and after 10 weeks the lunchtime assistants take the club over themselves. This type of club has been proven to eradicate behavioural problems at lunchtime and improve attendance. Similar clubs set up at breakfast slots will also improve punctuality. Appointments have been made to set up similar clubs in all other feeder schools.
Ms Morris has met with coaches at SAFC Foundation and discussed with them what activities they can offer. The penalty prize is a football initiative to raise money within the school in order to buy in expertise. Harton Technology College are looking at the penalty prize for year 7 and using the money raised to buy girls football strips and possibly take year 10 GCSE classes to The Stadium of Light for their ‘Learning through Football’ day. All feeder schools have been given the information and are considering doing the penalty prize within their schools and raising money to pay for the learning through football day.
Ms Morris is to meet with all Primary Link Teachers to formulate the family plan which will lead to more activities being arranged for each school.
