Art Art Exhibitions | Art Activities | Competitions | Student's Work

Our Art Department has 5 excellent Art teachers, each with their own specialist room. Each room has 6 computers and 1 projector. We deliver Art and Design lessons to KS3 – KS5 students.

Starting in September our KS3 will consist of Year 7 and 8 students. Art and Design is delivered through mixed ability groups. Our students’ follow a broad course, based upon the National Curriculum Programmes of Study. This course covers painting, drawing, designing, printing, 3D work and art appreciation.

This programme has been created using an ‘open framework’ based upon 3 major areas of study; European arts, Cultural studies and Design studies. All students follow a Modular Curriculum, covering themes such as Still Life,   Colour, Fashion, Landscapes, Portraits, African Art, Oriental Art and Spanish Art.

Students have the opportunity to achieve their personal best through challenging schemes of work that stretch all abilities. Homework is an        important part of student development. Projects are designed to develop the pupil’s practical and critical skills and give them the confidence to express ideas in a creative and individual way.

The uptake at KS4 is strong and the results are consistently good. We deliver the new Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate. Starting in September we will be delivering this course to our Year 9 students as well as Year 10 and 11. This course will be delivered over 1 or 2 years, depending upon student option choices. It consists of 5 detailed projects, each based on a new project brief. The topics addressed are still life, natural forms, structure, landscape and  portraiture. Through these carefully designed briefs, the students can then confidently progress onto A Level, a higher BTEC course, or into employment.

We also deliver ‘A Level Art’ through OCR. This Fine Art course is divided into 2 main sections, AS in Year 12 and A2 in Year 13. We are hoping to take our A Level students on an extended visit next year.

KS4 and KS5 pupils visit Art galleries to develop their understanding of historical and modern art and use their findings as further starting points for study.

All KS3 – KS5 schemes of work are under constant review, with new ideas introduced through departmental discussion.
