Work Related Learning

School Industry Liaison Officer - Ms L Culkin

Preparing for a working life is important for all students – whether a young person wants to go on to University to become a doctor or a lawyer or wishes to pursue a career in catering or hairdressing, we will try to support them in their endeavours.

We offer a range of  vocational GCSE and GNVQ programmes within school including Art and Design, Business, Engineering, Health and Social Care, ICT, Leisure and Tourism and Science.

We are planning a "Meet the Professional" evening in the summer term of 2006 to introduce students to a range of professions such as law, medicine, education, police etc. This will help students prepare for applications to University.

We also offer a range of NVQ programmes in conjunction with South Tyneside College in Engineering, Hairdressing, Catering, Construction and an NCFE level one qualification in Uniformed Services.  Students who choose to follow this route also benefit from one day per week work experience in a local business or organisation to support their studies. This is an exciting programme that offers a wide range of experiences for our young people in the world of work. We have had a number of successes including finding gifted chefs among our young people, catering competition winners and young ladies destined for a glamourous future in hair and beauty.

All students take part in a work experience programme in year 11 and some students work on the E to E little Bruvver programme.

As a school we are committed to the ST19 project.  Look at the ST19 website to learn more about what comes after life at school.
