Official opening of the refurbished traditional school building

After many years of planning and two years of building work on site, Harton Technology College was delighted to welcome Right Honourable David Miliband, MP for South Shields and Niall Quinn (MBE) to the official opening of the refurbished traditional school building.  The event took place on the morning of Friday 29 November and was attended by a number of guests who had been involved in the refurbishment programme along with School Governors and over 400 students.

Following a keynote speech by Mr Gibson (Executive Head Teacher) and reflective comments by Mr Miliband and Mr Quinn, presentations of pictures of the refurbished building were made to key members of staff involved in the project including Chris Braybrook (Head of School), Thomas Kern (Architect and advisor to school), David Johnstone (Carillion Project Manager), Aidan Jackson (Design Engagement Manager) and finally Derek Bohill (Assistant Head Teacher). A special mention was given to Derek whose final responsibility was to oversee the BSF Project before his retirement at Christmas following 39 years’ service to the school as a Teacher and member of SLT, prior to that he spent 5 years as a pupil at Harton!
