On 14 December 2006, Harton Technology College received confirmation of the redesignation of  Technology College status.  It is also pleased to announce that as a High Performing Specialist School it was invited to apply for a second specialism of Modern Foreign Languages and a third option of Vocational specialism.  Both of these applications were successful.

The school has had Technology College status since 1996 and has used a range of aspects of technology to improve teaching and learning in all subject areas alongside the developments of the specific specialism in Design Technology, Science and Mathematics.

Harton has a traditional curriculum which still includes a range of three modern foreign languages.  The language specialism will enable the school to work with partner primary schools and with local community groups on developing language skills.  To complement the traditional curriculum, the school also offers a range of vocational studies to students.  The vocational programmes enable pupils to think carefully about their employment routes which include a university pathway, pursuing an apprenticeship and securing a position of employment in a very competitive market.  The vocational specialism will enable the school to further develop their work in this important area of student education.
