Year 11

YEAR 11 STUDENTS and LEAVING SCHOOL

May 2006

Dear Parent,

For our Year 11 students the impending completion of the exam timetable effectively means the end of their time at Harton Technology College . This letter officially marks that occasion.

I would like to thank the parents of all Year 11 students for the help and support that they have given to the school during the past five years. The GCSE and GNVQ exams are only the culmination of a very long process that would be almost impossible to negotiate without your help.

Thanks must also go to the vast majority of students who have pursued their education at Harton Technology College with honour and distinction. These young people have been a pleasure to teach and they leave school with our best wishes for the future.

Of course, the exam process is not yet over. Results day in August is always a significant occasion, for those students who intend to come into school, that day will be Thursday 24 th August (from 10:00am) and results will be available in the school library. Many teaching staff will be present to share in this important occasion and hopefully the pleasure their well deserved results bring.

Students who would like results to be posted may leave a stamped addressed envelope at the school office, before the end of term.

There is one final area of administration to be completed before students can claim to have ‘left' school. Accompanying this letter should be a copy of the school leaver's ‘signing off' form. Completion of this form is a long established procedure – before the end of this term, students should return to school to see each of their subject teachers who will sign the form to verify that all school property has been returned and that the course has been satisfactorily completed. The completed form should then be given to the form tutor for the final signature. In August, exam results will only be released to students who have satisfactorily completed the signing off form.

Finally, on behalf of the staff of the school, I would like to wish all students the very best of luck for the future. Please keep in touch with us via the school website and keep us up to date on the progress of the next stage of your life. Thank you once again,

Yours faithfully

K A Gibson

Below is a copy of the letter sent to those students invited to the Year 11 Prom Night - NB This is not a blanket invitation to all Year 11 students.

INVITATION TO YEAR 11 'LEAVING PROM'

Dear Parent,

Congratulations!  Your son/daughter has successfully strived to attain targets designed to improve performance, set at the beginning of the year.  As a reward for such diligent application to success your son/daughter is invited to Harton Technology College’s Year 11 ‘Leaving Prom’ on Thursday 6th July at Hallgarth Manor.

The cost of the event is £35 which includes transport to and from the venue, a non alcoholic drink on arrival, a three course meal and a disco.

Should your son/daughter wish to accept the invitation, they should place a non refundable deposit of £20 with Mrs Nicol (adjacent to room 9) by Friday 28th April.

We do, of course, reserve the right to withdraw the invitation should your son/daughter’s behaviour become a concern in the remainder of the academic year.

Thanks once again for your continued support.  Further ‘prom’ details will follow in due course.

Yours sincerely,

Miss J Kelso
