Primary Transition

Pupils transfer to Secondary School in their last year of Junior or Primary education (year 6) whose date of birth is between 1st September to 31st August.  Parents will need to complete an application form for admission into Secondary School.  The form will be sent to every parent whose child resides in South Tyneside and attends one of the Junior and Primary School.  These forms will be available from the child’s current school.  Applications can also be made on line at www.southtyneside.info before the closing date.

The application form must be returned to your child’s current school even if the application is not for a school in South Tyneside.  The published date is in October; usually the day before October half term by midday, a check should be made each year in case of changes.  The school should issue a receipt when the form is handed in.

If you do not reside in South Tyneside but would like your child to be admitted to a secondary school in this authority you should contact your ‘home’ Authority for an application form and return it by the above date i.e. before October half term by midday.

All application forms received will be sent an acknowledgement letter by the end of December to confirm that the form has been received and the application is being processed.  If a letter is not received parents should contact School Services on 0191 4271717 immediately.

If parents change the original school preference(s) after the deadline the original application will be cancelled and a new application must be submitted which will be considered as ‘LATE’.  Parents should be aware that this will reduce the chance of gaining a place at the school parents may want.  Parents will be notified in writing of  the outcome by the beginning of March.
