Harton Away

Harton Technology College students meet Mrs Blair at No.10!

Eighteen year 9 students at Harton Technology College, accompanied by Enterprise Coordinator, Helen Morgan and Head teacher, Ken Gibson travelled to London last week to visit Downing Street and the House of Commons. The trip was a reward for the students who were nominated by their history teachers for outstanding work. The students spent over an hour inside No.10 and as they were waiting to be invited in, Cherie Blair arrived back and suggested that they may like to have a photograph taken outside No.10. Mrs Blair spent a few minutes chatting to the students and was delighted to hear that the school is a specialist Technology College who had recently been invited by the DfES, as a high performing specialist school, to bid for a second area of specialism.

The students were absolutely thrilled to meet the Prime Minister’s wife and were unanimous in their verdict of what a very nice lady she is. The tour of No.10 saw the staff and students being taken to all parts of the building, including the State rooms and where the Cabinet meet. They were fascinated by the many portraits of past Prime Ministers but resisted sitting in Winston Churchill’s reading chair, unlike Robbie Williams had on a previous tour!

The students then visited the House Of Commons before having a memorable trip on the London Eye. However, the highlight of the day was most certainly the tour of No.10 and, in particular, meeting Mrs Blair.
