Harton Away

Year 8 & 9 French Exchange, 5th - 12th June, 2008

Fifteen of our pupils, along with Mr Le Goff, took part in a seven day French Exchange programme in conjunction with Saint Aidan’s school in Sunderland.

We travelled by coach to Charleville Mézières, in North Eastern France on Thursday 5th June. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the journey and friendships were formed between pupils from Harton and Saint Aidan’s.

On the first day, we visited the 13th Century Reims Cathedral, visited the cellars at the Cave de Castellane and had a taste of Champagne!

Saturday was spent in Belgium. We went to the Euro Space Centre and went through some real astronaut training! It was so interesting! Not as interesting, however, as the Belgian chocolate shop! Mmmm!

We spent Sunday with our host families. It was such a valuable, cultural experience, living the life of a real French family.

Parc Astérix theme park was the port of call on the Monday – always a crowd pleaser!

Tuesday was spent at Verdan battle site where we visited a fort, cemetery and Citadelle, the underground city where life continued during the battles.

Our last day was absolutely fantastic! We went to Parc Accrobranche where we climbed up trees on an assault course. We all had a go and enjoyed a picnic by the lake.

The trip provided pupils with an unforgettable experience and has hopefully led to long-lasting friendships.
