Specialist Leaders of Education Training

Booking Forms

Designated as a Training School for Specialist Leaders of Education (SLE) by the National College, Harton Technology College is one of only two schools in the region and twelve nationwide who have committed to the training of senior staff to deliver compulsory core and optional enrichment training to SLEs not only from Harton Teaching School Alliance (HTSA) but from alliances across the region and nationally.

For SLEs designated by the National College in Cohort 1, the training comprises one compulsory core day which is provided free of charge and is compulsory prior to any SLE deployment and a choice of four enrichment sessions, two of which are provided free of charge. Further enrichment sessions can be booked but will incur a fee of £100 per session per delegate.

Brief details of the training are as follows:

  • Core Training - Introduction to School to School Support and the Role of the SLE
This one day training session aims to help develop the skills and qualities of SLEs and to aid understanding of the importance of emotional intelligence in school to school support. Strategies and activities will be provided to support the initial meetings between you as SLE and your client schools and to help you to build a toolkit to become an effective SLE.
  • Enrichment Sessions
    These four optional sessions comprise
    A. Leading Teaching and Learning – providing the leadership of excellent teaching and learning throughout your organisation
    B. Coaching and Its Importance in Developing Others - using coaching models including Egan’s Skilled Helper model to enable leaders to develop a culture of coaching across the school.
    C. Developing Your Leadership Potential – how to chose the right leadership style to support others and deal with resistance effectively
    D. Leading and Managing Organisations – reflecting on sharing of good practice to improve an area of weakness in your own leadership strategy, based on learning shared.

We have endeavoured to offer as many dates and combinations as possible so as to minimise disruption to teaching and learning for SLEs and their home school.

Delegates are requested to select a first and second choice of core training day and to submit the booking form no later than Monday 20th February 2012 and to select up to four optional sessions submitting the booking form by the later date of  Monday 27th February 2012.

Every effort will be made to allocate first choice however this may not always be possible depending on demand. As soon as booking deadlines have passed applicants will be advised giving as much notice as possible, of allocated training sessions. Full joining instructions will be supplied at this time.

Should you have any queries or require any further information at this stage please do not hesitate to Lynn Culkin Teaching School Manager via 0191 427 4050 ext. 205 or lculkin@harton-tc.co.uk.
